Greig & Stephenson
Architecture and Retail design is our business, and we approach it with
enthusiasm, imagination and professionalism. We take an analytical rather
than a stylistic approach to architecture and design, addressing the
demands of the client, the user and the physical context. The visual
elements grow naturally out of this process, with creativity and imagination
being constantly challenged, enhanced and tested by a sense of reality.
Greig & Stephenson was founded by Ken Greig and Nigel Stephenson in 1994, and works with major developers such as Ahold, Ahold Real Estate and ING, as well as with institutional property funds, major high street retailers, private clients and charitable trusts. Projects include retail developments, both new build commissions and refurbishments, urban regeneration schemes, and commercial interiors. Over the past 15 years, Greig & Stephenson has worked consistently in the retail sector in the UK and in Europe for such well known names as Selfridges, HMV, Marks & Spencer, Waterstone’s, and De Bijenkorf (The Netherlands), as well as other smaller high street brands. We work at all scales ranging from town centres, shopping centres and mixed developments, to individual stores, restaurants and market stalls. Our projects can be found all over the UK and in Europe.
As architects we design new buildings, but our perspective often extends to the wider urban framework. We take a strategic approach to design and much of our work concerns initiating change in the way people use public and commercial space so that retail and recreational opportunities can be optimised. In projects such as Leeds Market, London’s Borough Market, and Preston Market we can demonstrate how the right strategy can bring new life and profitability to old and neglected markets, and reinvigorate the communities and environment around them.
Our greatest assets are our own experience and the flexibility and diversity of the Greig & Stephenson team. Our dedicated staff number 25, and between them they offer skills in background research, urban design, retail strategy and design, concept design, visualisation, detail design and implementation.
